Icelandic catch down, first sale value up
The Icelandic fleet’s overall catch in 2023 came to 1,375,000 tonnes, a 3% drop compared to the previous year.
At the same, the first sale value of catches was up 1% compared to 2022, at ISK197 billion.
The demersal catch of 402,000 tonnes was 7% lower than the 2022 level, and the first sale catch vale was also down 7% to ISK126 billion. Pelagic catches came to 946,000 tonnes, a 1% drop over the previous year, and pelagic landings fetched ISK58 billion.
Iceland’s aquaculture production in 2023 came to 50,000 tonnes, a 3.5% drop over the previous year. Production is predominantly salmon (88%) followed by Arctic char (11%) and the export value of Icelandic salmon in 2023 was ISK40 billion, down 9% over the previous year.
